A study study looking at road improvement schemes for the county has won an award.

The West of M6 Strategic Connectivity Study was published by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and sets out improvements required for Cumbria’s road infrastructure to accommodate economic growth over the next 15 years.

The study won the 2016 Project of the Year accolade at the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation North East & Cumbria awards.

The award recognises research, concepts, innovation, design and excellence that have tangible benefits, for people in the region.

The study identified schemes for major roads which would support economic growth while simultaneously improving road use for tourists and reduce delays and accidents.

Graham Haywood, director of Cumbria LEP, said: “It’s great news to hear that a piece of work we have commissioned has come in for industry praise and has been recognised with an award for its positive contribution towards transport and infrastructure planning.”
