Does your band rock like Colt 45? Is your sound begging to be heard?

Here's your chance to show people what you've got!

We have joined forces with Workington's Monroes Bar to offer local bands the chance to win £1,000.

The Monroes Battle of the Bands will give musicians across West Cumbria to fight it out for the cash plus a slot at the 2017 Aspatria Music Festival.

Heats will be held later this year at the Finkle Street venue and hopes to attract the best Cumbrian talent.

They will be judged by representatives from Raz White Entertainments, The Whitehaven News, the Carnegie Theatre Trust and Aspatria Music Festival.

Karen Thompson, manager of the Carnegie Theatre, said, "Cumbria has a hugely vibrant music scene with many hugely talented musicians and bands.

"We want to give them a platform here to shine and where better than our Monroes? It is still close to the hearts of many gig goers as the local mecca for live music.

"As an organisation, the Carnegie Theatre Trust is committed to providing opportunities to develop local creative talent and this is a brilliant way for bands to get their material out there and make contact with other musicians working locally.

"As well as providing some great nights of live music, we hope this competition will be the start of building a network for local bands to learn from and support each other."

The heats will be held on September 2, October 1, November 12 and December 9. The final will be held in January.

Bands, who must comprise only of members aged over 18 and not be signed to a recording contract, can apply by filling in the form below.

Hard copies are available from the Carnegie Theatre box office.

The closing date is June 25.

Bands will then be selected for particular heats. They will be required to perform a 45-minute set of their best material in front of a live audience.
