A Whitehaven restaurant has closed its doors for the final time.
The Ali-Taj Indian restaurant, on Tangier Street, shut on Sunday night.
It opened in 1983.
Owner Nowab Ali, 60, said that although trade remained steady, expensive overheads in such a big building mean that a restaurant was no longer viable.
Mr Ali has instead bought a neighbouring premises on Tangier Street, formerly Turkuaz kebab shop, where he will open an Indian takeaway-only shop in the coming weeks.
Twelve members of staff were employed at the Ali-Taj, and six will be retained in the new venture.
National chain Domino's Pizza is taking over part of the Ali-Taj building to open a new takeaway outlet.
Conversion into the Domino's shop is expected to start within weeks.
Mr Ali, who operated the business with his brothers Jomir and Ahad, said: "I'd like to thank all of our customers for all of their support over the years. Everyone has been so very nice to us."
