Westlakes Engineering is in the running for two national awards.

The firm has been shortlisted in the technology champion category of the 2016 New Civil Engineer Companies of the Year Awards.

It is also one of only five in contention for SME of the year.

The company, based at Westlakes Science and Technology Park at Moor Row, is an engineering consultancy providing civil, structural, environmental and renewable energy services.

All the finalists attended face-to-face judging by members of a 30-strong jury made up of clients, contractors and consultants including Michelle Dix, the managing director of Crossrail 2, and Phil Wilbraham, development director at Heathrow Airport.

The awards have been launched this year by the trade magazine New Civil Engineer to recognise firms that lead the way in five areas critical to clients, and in making engineering workplaces a great place to be.

Mark Hansford, editor of New Civil Engineer, said: “The entries so far have not disappointed. Our shortlisted firms have great stories to tell and we look forward to hearing them in more detail at the next stage."

The winners will be announced next Monday in London, along with the countdown of the industry's top 100 firms.

Westlakes Engineering was in 94th place last year and has been told it is in the top 100 again.

Making the list was a long-standing ambition of Westlakes’ managing director, Andy Hooper, who founded the business in 2004.
