THE finalists for the CN Group Education and Learning Awards 2015 are revealed today.
Each individual or organisation in the shortlist will now be invited to Carlisle Racecourse on October 2, where the winners of the Golden Apple awards will be revealed during a gala evening for more than 200 guests.
West Cumbria has a crop of impressive finalists in this year’s shortlist. The Energy Coast University Technical College (UTC) tops the list with three finalists – Charlie Minshaw in the learner of the year category, Cherry Akred in the support staff section, and Paige Brown, who is nominated in the apprentice of the year section.
Mayfield School in Whitehaven, Woodend Country Childcare in Lamplugh, and Lillyhall-based training provider Gen2 each have a double celebration, with two finalists named.
Caroline Jourdain, of Mayfield School – a special school for three- to 18-year-olds covering Copeland and Allerdale, is a finalist in the technology in learning category, whilst colleague Alison Harper could be named teaching assistant of the year.
Gen2 is also a finalist in the technology in learning category. The organisation is also one of three finalists in the excellence in training category.
Meanwhile Woodend Country Childcare, Lamplugh, is among the finalists in the early years and inclusion categories.
Elsewhere West Lakes Academy in Egremont is in the running to be named secondary school of the year.
The 2015 CN Group education awards are sponsored by Inspira and the University of Cumbria. The Whitehaven News is published by Cumbrian Newspapers, part of CN Group.
