A West Cumbrian pub has been nominated for a national rural award.

The Kellbank Hotel, in Gosforth, has been nominated in the pub category of the annual Countryside Alliance Awards.

The awards are a celebration of British food, farming, enterprise and heritage through small businesses.

The 23-bedroom Kellbank is a former coaching inn and its owners run the nearby Bailey Ground Farm, which provides the hotel with produce.

The pub is also the hub for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue and Gosforth Show committee.

Richard Mawson, of the Kellbank Hotel, said: "I'm absolutely blown away event to get a nomination for this amazing award. I really want to thank all our hard working staff for making it a success and of course the local community which aren’t just my customers but my friends too.

"We are so grateful to be able to get involved with everything that’s happening around us."

Anyone can nominate a business which serves its community as well as provide great service and produce.

Nominations are still open for the awards, which have five categories –including food and drink, village shop, rural enterprise, butcher and pub.

National winners will be announced at the House of Lords next spring.
