DEDICATED volunteers are set to be recognised for their hard work in Copeland.

Two local celebration events are taking place next month as part of National Volunteers Week.

The Week, from June 1-12, celebrates the contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK and inspires others to get involved too.

Volunteers are invited to celebrations at Whitehaven Golf Club, on Monday, June, 6 and Haverigg Lighthouse Centre, Millom, on Tuesday, June, 7. Both events will be held between 5.30pm and 8pm.

They will be sponsored by the Copeland Community Fund (CCF).

Emma Moynihan, from CCF, said: "The events will be provide an opportunity to thank volunteers for their commitment to the local community and local organisations and will be a chance for volunteers to meet other volunteers, but also other community groups and charities alike.

"Many of the organisations funded by the Copeland Community Fund are reliant on volunteers, whose achievements are often much too overlooked and so we are very proud to be able to support this evening and to recognise and thank local volunteers."

Food, refreshments, presentations of awards and certificates will be on offer at both events.

Judith Holmshaw, for Cumbria CVS said: "These events are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate both volunteers and volunteering.

"We are pleased to be supporting Copeland Community Fund to run these events and would strongly encourage all local organisations that involve volunteers to attend these events and receive a big thank you from Copeland Community Fund for them and their volunteers!"
