Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova is set to perform live in the Lakes this month.

A former childhood prodigy, the rising star will be showcasing her dazzling virtuosity at the Theatre by the Lake, in Keswick, on Sunday December 11.

Born in Russia and emerging from the prestigious Yehudi Menuin School, she is said to have the ability to express the tragic and emotional depths of her music.

Playing both modern and period instruments, Ibragimova has established a reputation as one of the most accomplished and intriguing of the younger violinists.

At the 2015 Proms, she played concertos with both a symphony orchestra and a baroque ensemble and gave two late-night recitals with capacity audiences, featuring the complete Bach partitas and sonatas. She will be revisiting this programme in her Keswick concert, when she will play a Bach solo sonata and a partita in the first half.

Her latest and eagerly awaited recording of the Romanian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe’s solo violin sonatas has sold massively, going straight to the top of the classical chart in the first week of its release, and being selected as BBC Radio 3’s CD of the week.

Some of these pieces will feature in the second half of the concert.

It is not Alina’s first visit to Keswick – she played in the town in November 2007 as a last minute replacement for the first violin in the Hermitage String Trio – so her return here in her own right is long overdue.

There will be a pre-concert talk before the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the Theatre by the Lake box office.
