Nearly 200 Valley School pupils took part in a creative writing project.
Mirehouse Residents Group organised Pathways to Prose, which saw the students write their own poetry and stories as well as taking part in drama.
Certificates and prizes were presented to the pupils by residents' group chairman Roger Wynne and Amanda Denwood, who is the project leader.
Keith Cartner, who is community involvement co-ordinator at Mirehouse, said: "The next step will see their collective efforts published in a book which will be launched later in the year at Mirehouse Residents' Group's annual literary events on the estate.
"This will also feature nationally renowned performance poets Mike Garry and Tony Walsh and works from local residents.''
The project was funded by the People's Health Trust and Awards for All.
Valley's reception pupils also took their favourite bears to read at Mirehouse Library.
The children are taken there each week by their teacher, Ruth Barwise, to choose their favourite reads. She said: "We love going there!''
