There was dancing in the street in Cockermouth at the weekend as the Northbound festival rolled into town.

The free one-day event saw two stages, a beer tent, children's activity area and food vendors set up on Main Street.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the sunshine as acts including Gareth Ferguson, Flick, Harrison, Mojo Rising, Mingo's Locker, Luke Matear, Springfield, Crow Dog, Fading Face and headliners Dansi.

The main event finished at 8pm and after-parties were held in town pubs so the festival atmosphere continued into the night.

Michelle Williams, Dot Dougan, Julie Watson, of Workington, and Lauren Dawson, of Seaton, said they had a great day at the event.

Dot said: "I really enjoy listening to Luke Matear, he's got a great talent."

Lauren added: "Mingo's Locker were brilliant, it's been a superb day."

Andy Roberts, 40, of Woodville Way, Cockermouth, said: "We were here early and it was already busy. It has such a good atmosphere and the festival layout works really well on Main Street."

Jane Laidlow, 40, of Gable Avenue, Cockermouth, attended Northbound with her husband Nick, 41, and daughters Ellie, 15, and Lucy, 11.

Jane said: "This is brilliant for Cockermouth and needs to happen every year. It's great to hear live music on Main Street."

Anne Gallop, 62, of Great Broughton, said: "It's a great event and I really enjoyed listening to Mingo's Locker. It's brilliant for Cockermouth."

Northbound was organised by CN Events and supported by Allerdale council.

Alan Smith, council leader, was there with his family.

He said: "This is a great boost for Cockermouth and we're really proud that we put it on."

Marie Whitehead, director of CN Events, said: "We had a great day at Northbound, the atmosphere was really laid back and it was a true street party, with a real sene of community."
