Two teenagers - aged 17 and 19 - have been arrested following an armed robbery at Ravenglass Post Office.

Two people, dressed in black with their faces covered, were carrying knives when they threatened a staff member and made off with an unknown amount of money this morning.

Police were called at around 10.20am.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said that two men were arrested this afternoon on suspicion of armed robbery and are currently in police custody.

Officers have been appealing for anyone who noticed anyone or any vehicles acting suspiciously near the Main Street premises to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Ledingham, of West Cumbria CID, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the post office in Ravenglass between 10am and 10.30am that noticed anything suspicious.

"Fortunately nobody was hurt during this incident and we have a team of officers actively making enquiries to trace those responsible.

“No matter how insignificant you may deem your information, it may help our enquiries so please do not hesitate to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from West Cumbria CID.
