TRIBUTES have been paid to a "wonderful husband and father" who died suddenly in hospital.

The family of Sean Scott, of Wellington Row, Whitehaven, say he will be "sorely missed" following his death at West Cumberland Hospital on August 13.

And last weekend, one of his son's Dillon led the Haven team onto the pitch for their game against Hunslet Hawks, in his dad's memory.

Mr Scott was married to Claire and was father to Dillon, Sam and step-dad to Libby.

Tributes have been paid by Mrs Scott, who said: "Sean was a lovable big friendly giant of a man. He was a wonderful husband and father. He was always there to lend help and support to family and friends."

She said when Mr Scott was younger he enjoyed fishing where he grew up at St Bees. He lived there with his mother Linda, father David and younger brothers Peter and Nicholas.

After leaving school he got an apprenticeship at Sellafield as an electrical engineer where he continued to work.

Mrs Scott said her husband was keen on body building, and "he would go to the gym most nights".

"We sadly went on our last family holiday together in July to Scarborough. We will treasure those memories. He will be sorely missed. We all loved him so very much," she said.

Mr Scott's funeral was held last week. His family asked for donations to be made to Kells ARLFC through Eaves Funeral Service.

Sara Nichols, Dillon's mum, said the family were thankful to Haven for giving Dillon the opportunity to become the team mascot at the match last weekend. The youngster plays for Kells rugby league youth team.

She said: "He spent some time with the Haven players and he led the team out. He absolutely loved it. Afterwards we were invited to the executive lounge. It was a good day. I can't thank them enough for organising this special day for Dillon."

Peter Smith, Kells head coach, has also paid tribute to Mr Scott, saying: "We were all very sorry to hear of his death and we send our condolences and thoughts out to his family."
