A firefighter in full breathing apparatus has helped raise £15,000 for West Cumbrian charities by tackling Ben Nevis this weekend.

Ade Kevern was with the Together We Can Fundraising group which walked the mountain to raise cash for Rosehill Youth Theatre, Calderwood House and Safety Net.

Those taking part in the trek were Brian Maudling, Julieanne Kelly, Sharon Crellan, Joy Nelson, Angela Richardson, Ade Kevern and Ian Watson.

Julieanne said: "Well, we did it. We trekked Ben Nevis and raised such a lot of money for three charities in our area that rely on donations to keep their services open.

"The whole team rose to the challenge and they done amazing. A special mention has to be to Ade Kevern who climbed Ben Nevis with his full BA kit on which weighed around 25kg, he is our hero! Big thanks again to Reays for donating the mini bus and to the drivers Kenny and Dave.

"We are still taking donations so please contact us if you would like to donate. Safety Net support children and adults that have been affected by rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence in Cumbria; Calderwood House is a homeless hostel for ex service men and people in the area based in Egremont and Rosehill Youth Theatre is a theatre group for children at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven."

Together We Can Fundraising was set up last year by consultant Julieanne aiming to bring various causes together to learn from one another.

Meetings cover topics such as fundraising practice, trust fundraising, community fundraising, events, sponsorship and gift aid.

A Black Tie & Tiara Ball is being held on Friday, November 24 at The Hallmark Hotel, Carlisle, to raise money for Safety Net UK.

The event is £40 per person. For more information call Julieanne on 07722589859.
