Viking treasure found in Beckermet is going on public display this spring.

In 2014, local enthusiasts Justin Bell and Daniel Boakes unearthed the hoard of 20 silver artefacts in a field.

Mr Bell called their 16 trading ingots and four rings “the find of a lifetime”. And now it is going on display in The Beacon museum next month.

All of the items were verified as being of Norse origin, and evidence suggests that they could have been brought to Cumbria from as far away as Russia.

The hoard was given “treasure” status in 2015.

Mr Bell and Mr Boakes will officially launch the Norse Hoard exhibit at the harbourside museum on February 25, and activities include the discoverers leading a metal-detecting class.

And a series of events will accompany the exhibition during half-term week (February 20 to 24) including a Norse Saga Day with local storyteller Steve Wharton (February 23) and a murder mystery evening (February 24).

Also at The Beacon, Sound and Vision – a photographic exhibition by members of Copeland Occupational and Social Centre - runs until January 22.

The exhibition offers a channel for the photographers to express themselves creatively, and each image can be enjoyed while listening to the artist’s chosen music track.

And from January 18 to March 19, a selection of rare Eastern European artwork goes on display in Wycinanki: the Art of Polish Paper Cuts .
