THE TRAIN From Spain which is destined for Ravenglass is now undergoing restoration.

The historic locomotive's wheels have undergone non-destructive testing in Workington, which they passed, and work has started on washout plugs and bosses on the boiler.

The locomotive was moved more than a thousand miles from its Catalonian home earlier this year.

The Krauss Pacific No.8457 was built in 1929 to work at the Ibero-American Exposition in Seville, Spain. It is now being restored at Old Hall Engineering, Bouth, Cumbria.

The Train From Spain Appeal is seeking help with the cost of several components for the 15" locomotive that will make its new home the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway once the restoration is complete.

Key items still to buy include fire bars (20 are needed, costing £50 each), a brake valve (£90), a ratchet-drive lubricator for the cylinders (£1,000) and two safety valves (at £1,000 each).

Sponsorship packages are available which include rewards such as an exclusive Train From Spain Appeal mug or badge. To contribute towards any of these items, visit trainfromspain.org/donate and note your intention to sponsor a particular part in the comments box.
