An athlete who is making history at the Rio Olympics is set to visit a small gymnastics club this autumn.

Max Whitlock has confirmed he will be visiting Millom Recreation Centre on Sunday November 6.

The 23-year-old, who won two gold medals in one day, is making British history through his amazing performances at the Olympics and is now set to come to Millom to offer a few hints and tips.

Mr Whitlock said: “I knew Beth Tweddle had visited Millom a few times and has always spoken really highly of the gymnasts there so I’m very much looking forward to coming up and meeting everyone and seeing what they can do.”

Tracy Kirk, manager of the recreation centre, said she is delighted to welcome Mr Whitlock after previously hosting visits from Beth Tweddle and Hannah Whelan.

She said: “We are all really excited that Max is coming to the centre to visit our gymnastics club.

“He is an amazing gymnast and his visit is sure to inspire all our budding gymnasts.

“It’s so exciting that I am able to offer our gymnasts yet another visit from such an inspiring GB Olympian.”
