Tickets for music star Jolan’s Christmas lights switch-on concert will go on sale today.

The runner-up from this year’s The Voice will be headlining the evening concert at Whitehaven’s Civic Hall with support from Julieanne Kelly on November 20.

Whitehaven Town Council, which is organising the lights switch-on, has announced that the “winter wonderland”, including an ice rink and snow machines, will now be held in Castle Park rather than St Nicholas’ Gardens.

Town council clerk Les Abrahams said the plans to host it in St Nicholas’ Gardens had been “met with potential planning issues”, but the move to Castle Park has the support of Copeland Council’s mayor and senior management.

“This will be a multi-centre event which will involve as many local parties as possible,” he said.

“We will have street entertainment, events at the civic hall, the fire service are bringing fire engines down, there will be reindeer, Darling Manor and My Superheroes will be there, the Rum Story will be involved and we have a local company doing the lights.”

Jolan has recently released a song called Keep It On Time – a collaboration with London-based production trio PreZidents which is available on Spotify.

Tickets for the concert will be on sale at the civic hall for £16 – £1 from each sale will go to Mayfield School and Parkinson’s UK.

he town’s winter wonderland will open on November 26.

And in the lead-up to the switch-on, a Christmas market will be held.

The event runs from November 17 to 20, in addition to the regular market.

Copeland mayor Mike Starkie said the aim was to "build on the momentum'' of the newly-revamped market which saw thousands visit in September.

Local shops saw their takings boosted and there is now plans for a regular programme of events.

Tickets are available from the civic hall.
