A CHARITY which has raised over £42,000 for breast care is holding its annual fundraising event.

Think Pink will be showing the movie, Rock of Ages, alongside a raffle, sweet treats and pink fizz at Energus Centre, Lillyhall, on Saturday, October 1 at 6.30pm.

This is the eighth year the charity group has held a 'Chick Flick' evening which co-incides with Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Over the years money raised by the group has been donated to the West Cumberland Hospital which has bought an ultrasound machine and help establish a local screening clinic.

Next month's event will be particularly poignant as its founder member, Karen Ritson, 42, of Moresby Parks, died last October following an eight-year battle with cancer.

Her husband, Ian, said: "We have now seen the difference the money we're raising is making to the local services at WCH.

"It makes us immensely proud but also motivates us further to keep raising more funds to help ladies, gents and their families who are effected by this truly terrible disease.

"Obviously this year's event will be particularly poignant with the loss of Karen, however I don't want this to be the focus of the evening as she always wanted it to be about raising awareness and having fun.''

And he added: "Karen understood only too well how people going through treatment feel and wanted the evenings to be respite from the ongoing difficulties rather than reminding them of what they are going through.''

The couple have a daughter, Isabelle.

Tickets are £16 available from www.eventbrite.co.uk
