A ROYAL celebration was carried out in a West Cumbrian village as students, parents and pensioners got together to mark the Queen's 90th.

Children from Thornhill Primary School, near Egremont, partied with members of Thornhill Village Association and the village's over-60s club.

The pupils performed a 20 minute pageant that played out events from Queen Elizabeth II's life - and afternoon tea was supplied by the village association.

Joint secretary of Thornhill Village Association Rosalind Amey said: "I think it went well, everyone seemed to enjoy it. We started off with the over-60s club and the parents and we had a picture for every year of the Queen's life.

"Then the key stage 2 girls, who are part of the school's Glee club, performed their pageant which looked at key events from her life."

She added: "We had scones and cakes and then finished with a fun quiz about the Queen's personal details and dates."

The event was open to anyone who wanted to visit and Helen Toman, admin officer at Thornhill School, said: It was good, it was really well attended. The children came in their party clothes or in red, white and blue.

"It was a nice afternoon, the students thoroughly enjoyed it."
