ONE of the men accused of killing teenager Jordan Watson in a graveyard has today been found guilty of his murder.

George Thomson, 19, was convicted unanimously following a high-profile trial at Carlisle Crown Court. He had consistently denied the offence.

The court clerk then asked the jury foreman: "Mr foreman, will you please answer my question yes or no. Have you reached a verdict on which you are all agreed in respect of George Thomson?"

The foreman replied: "Yes."

The clerk then asked: "Do you find the defendant guilty or not guilty?"

The foreman replied:"Guilty."

As the verdict was announced, Thomson sat impassively in the dock.

Sobs could be heard from the public gallery.

The jury are now resuming their deliberations on the other two defendants in the case - Brahnn Finley, 19, of Furze Street, off London Road, and Daniel Johnston, 20, of Petteril Bank Road, Harraby.

Mr Justice Nicholas Green told the jury the time has come for them, if necessary, to deliver a majority verdict on Finley and Johnston

The verdict on Thomson, of Upperby Road, Carlisle, was delivered at 11.40am following deliberations that got underway on Wednesday.

He sat impassively in the dock as the verdict was delivered, before being taken to court cells.

A passer-by discovered Jordan’s body in Carlisle’s Upperby Cemetery early on June 16 last year.

He had sustained horrific neck and head injuries, caused by a knife-like weapon.

Finley and Johnston deny murder.
