A CHARITY which has raised over £42,000 for breast care has raised a further £7,500 at its annual event.

Think Pink was held at the Energus Centre on Saturday and included a showing of the movie, Rock of Ages, alongside a raffle, sweet treats and pink fizz.

It was the eighth year the charity group has held a 'Chick Flick' evening which co-incided with Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Over the years money raised by the group has been donated to the West Cumberland Hospital which has bought an ultrasound machine and help establish a local screening clinic.

The event was particularly poignant as its founder member, Karen Ritson, 42, of Moresby Parks, died last October following an eight-year battle with cancer.

Her husband, Ian, said: "We have now seen the difference the money we're raising is making to the local services at WCH.

"It makes us immensely proud but also motivates us further to keep raising more funds to help ladies, gents and their families who are effected by this truly terrible disease.''

Also attending the event were Ian and Karen's daughter, Isabelle, and Karen's mum, Hazel Mitchell.

And Ian added: "Karen understood only too well how people going through treatment feel and wanted the evenings to be respite from the ongoing difficulties rather than reminding them of what they are going through.''
