Singing star Jolan will return to his roots with two performances in St Bees this weekend.

The Moor Row musician, who finished as runner-up in last year's edition of BBC series The Voice, plays at St Bees School Memorial Hall on Friday and Saturday.

His shows will pay tribute to his idol, Prince, who he regularly performed as prior to his TV appearances as well as singing Purple Rain during the live semi-final.

And playing in St Bees will be special for Jolan as he returns to the scene of some of his earliest performances.

He said: "I've been asked many times if I was ever going to do another Prince show so I thought why not? It was so much fun last time.

"Also, it's at my old school. I was there all through my secondary school years and it was really the first place I actually sang in front of anybody but my family, so that means a lot to me."

He added: "I'm really looking forward to it as they're going to be quite intimate shows in the school's Memorial Hall."

On The Voice, Jolan was pipped to the post by Kevin Simm - a former member of pop group Liberty X - in the final, watched by millions.

He won through to the final with a rendition of Purple Rain, in memory of his late mother Joanne, before performing with his mentor - frontman of the Kaiser Chiefs Ricky Wilson - and Simm, a fellow TeamRicky contestant. They belted out Power of Love by Huey Lewis and The News.

In June, he headlined a charity gig - Copeland Rocks 4 Manchester - at Florence Arts Centre, Egremont, to raise money for the families of those killed and injured in the Manchester terror attack.

He said the St Bees show will include other favourites alongside Prince tracks.

Jolan will be supported on the night by DJ Pavarotti. Tickets are on sale for £15 at www.mightyboofpromotions.com and in store at Threads Clothing, Whitehaven. Doors open at 6.30pm.
