AROUND 90 local children showed off their performing skills with two "magical'' showcases.

Razzamataz West Cumbria used the theme of magic and featured songs, dances and drama pieces from Aladdin, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver!, Wicked, The Little Mermaid and Jungle Book.

The performers also displayed some original contemporary pieces and authentic street dance.

Charlotte Young, principal of Razzamataz West Cumbria, said: “The summer showcase is a wonderful event for our students and gives their parents, guardians, family and friends the opportunity to see their hard work from the weekly classes.

"The young cast range in age from four to 18 years, and for many of them, this performance gave them their first taste of what it would be like to be a professional dancer, singer or actor. Not only this, but it gives them life-long skills such as confidence building.'' The event was held at the Carnegie Theatre, Workington.

“We are very honoured to give our students such wonderful opportunities,” Charlotte added. “It is an experience that will really build a young person’s confidence and, who knows, perhaps we have uncovered a future superstar!''

Razzamataz West Cumbria is held every Saturday from 9am-1pm

at The Energus Conference Centre for ages two-18 years.

It will be holding a summer school from August 8-11 at the Carnegie Arts Centre for ages four-16 years.
