A PENGUIN helped children to save the world during their primary school play.

Bookwell School pupils enthralled parents and family members with their end of year peformance of Eddie the Penguin Saves The World .

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children performed the musical about global warming.

Eddie’s story tells of a clever penguin who decides to travel the earth to find out why the polar ice caps are melting and what he can do to stop it.

He taught the people of America to save energy by turning lights off, Brazilians to stop cutting trees down, Australians to recycle and re-use and the British people to walk to school instead of using cars.

Headteacher Russell Hardy said: “The children performed with great singing voices and it was clear to see how much hard work had been put into their performances.”

While Pamela Pope, foundation stage leader, said: “The musical has allowed us to help explain the importance of looking after our planet and caring for one another in a cross curricular approach.

“The children never cease to amaze us with how well they learn their lines and how well they perform. They absolutely loved doing it.”
