SHREK, Donkey and a host of fairy tale characters put on a show at a Gosforth summer school.

Whitehaven based singing school Sing Stars held a two day drama workshop at St Mary's Church, with 27 children showing off their talents.

It featured song, drama, arts and crafts and finished with a performance for family and friends on Tuesday.

"It was brilliant, we had a good turnout of parents and families for the final performance which went really, really well," said Beth McGarry, who runs Sing Stars.

"It was based on Shrek The Musical and the children were singing, acting and performing different parts. They sang two musical numbers, including 'I'm a Believer'."

The event was held in Gosforth as Sing Stars is launching a singing school in the village from September 11. Free taster sessions will be held in Gosforth Primary School.

And the group is also holding an Aladdin summer school workshop from Monday, August 15 to Wedneday, August 17 at St Begh's RC Junior School, Whitehaven. Places are still available.
