A son whose mum is recovering from her third diagnosis of breast cancer has raised more than £1,800 for the West Cumberland Hospital.

Stuart Rigg, 23, took part in the Gelt Gladiator challenge, which included 10km of muddy tracks, ice-cold water and more than 30 obstacles, to collect the money for the hospital’s breast care services.

Donations included £1,000 from the Sellafield Contractors’ Committee Fund, £200 from Sellafield Ltd Charity Fund and £670 from Stuart’s family, friends and colleagues.

Mr Rigg, of Beckermet, said: “A big thank you for the generous donations, all the support the team received leading up to and during the event, and to Barney’s Print Shop in Gosforth for printing the shirts worn during the event.”

Mr Rigg’s mum, Diane Rigg, of Seascale, who is now back at work, said: “I am very proud of Stuart for his fundraising. The staff at the hospital are worth their weight in gold.”
