A DEDICATED group of young stars has been awarded by a local youth centre for their voluntary work.

The “Phoenix Stars” have been selected by Phoenix Youth Project for their hard work and dedication over the past four months.

Jessica Redden was one of those selected. Project manager, Paul Rowe, said Jessica has demonstrated commitment to her own personal development and was selected for being a role model through actively engaging.

He added: "She is a very enthusiastic member - actively participating and involving herself in all activities and building a good rapport with staff."

Jessica has won the plaudits while completing her ASDAN award - which aims to develop skills for learning, employment and later life.

Another youngster, Sean O’Neill, was described in the awards as "an excellent volunteer, who is polite, considerate and communicates well, showing great youth club member attributes to involve and support younger members".

Mr Rowe said Cory Connor was awarded because he "actively engages with the project, follows instructions and has a great relationship with staff."

Sam Dixon and Lee Jacques were two of the other PYP members who were praised in the report.

Mr Rowe said: "Sam shows dedication by having outstanding attendance in sessions – he is the only male member in the younger session at Moor Row."

Mr Rowe also praised Lee Jacques, saying: "He participates in all activities, showing enthusiasm, working well with others to develop friendships."

The youth club works with hundreds of youngsters across Cleator Moor, Frizington and Moor Row.
