A hit musical was brought to life by talented youngsters at an Egremont school.

Pupils at St Bridget's Catholic Primary School put on two evening performances of Oliver! and added a last minute matinee due to demand.

Headteacher Suzanne Smith said: "The children surpassed all our expectations and put on the most wonderful performances.

"They acted like they were on the West End and sang their hearts out. Families and friends were enraptured at the talent on display."

The show, which had a cast made up from the school's junior classes, was the second time St Bridget's had put together an end of year musical, after students performed The Sound of Music last year.

"We are so proud of each and every one of them and we are overwhelmed by the amount of talent we have in our school!," said mrs Smith.

"Last year we introduced performing an end of year musical as our junior production."

Oliver!, which is based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, tells the story of an orphan who is born in a workhouse.

The students sang well-known songs such as 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two', 'Food, Glorious Food' and 'Consider Yourself'.
