A team of soldiers will walk 20 miles in full kit to raise cash for two worthy causes.

Members of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, based at Workington’s Army Reserve Centre, will join forces with the town’s Royal British Legion on May 28.

They will leave the centre, on Harrington Road at 8am and head to Silloth Green in Combat Effective Fighting Order, which weighs 25kg.

Funds raised will be split between Papyrus, a charity aiming to prevent young suicide, and the Poppy Appeal.

Sergeant Ross Murphy said: “There’s around 25 of us, some from the Royal British Legion, who will be doing the walk in full uniform. We’re raising money for charities that are close to us.

“It’s about getting our name out there and being recognised. There’s no operations going on at the moment and people don’t know what we’re doing.”
