A YOUNG gamekeeper found dead in a field in the Scottish Borders over Christmas was from Beckermet.
The body of Matthew Tyson, aged 19, was discovered on the morning of December 23 on the Horseupcleugh estate at Longformacus, near Duns. He is believed to have died in a shooting accident but inquiries are ongoing.
He was the twin son of Pauline and Ian Tyson who have a joinery business in Beckermet, and brother to Anthony, Lindsey and Sarah.
Alex Jameson, the estate manager, paid tribute to the young gamekeeper, adding: “This was a tragic accident. Our thoughts are with Matthew’s family.”
A spokesman for The Scottish Gamekeepers Association added: “Matthew was very highly regarded.
“This is a terrible loss to his family, friends and colleagues and we send strength to his family at this very difficult time.”
A statement from Police Scotland said: “Inquiries are ongoing but there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.”
