THE latest X Factor star to appear in Cumbria will be former winner Shayne Ward.

The chart-topping singer will be performing live at Whitehaven's Solway Hall this April, performing hits from his four albums.

He came out on top in the second-ever series of the ITV talent show, back in 2005, and his debut single, That's My Goal, took the prestigious Christmas number one slot.

Most recently though, his biggest successes have come in the world of television, playing Aidan O'Connor on Coronation Street - a role for which he landed the Best Newcomer title at the National Television Awards in 2016.

The Manchester-based performer's self-titled album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Charts, and the three records he's released since then have all made the Top 20.

The latest to arrive was 2015's Closer, which was Ward's first independent release, funded through PledgeMusic, and was the debut release from MPG - a joint venture between Ward and respected music producer Mike Stock. Unusually, it was announced that the entire album was recorded and produced using solar power.

Combining his TV work with a long-awaited solo tour, he is back out on the road touring nationwide.

His live set will feature the major chart hits, with No Promises, Stand By Me, No U Hang Up, and Breathless all set to be included.

Support for the Whitehaven date comes from renowned party band Rang-a-Tang, performing hits from the 60s to the present day. Their acclaimed live show has been known to include funky re-workings of tracks such as Blur's Song 2 and Andy Williams' I Love You Baby.

Shayne Ward plays at the Solway Hall on Saturday April 1, from 1pm, and tickets are available from the Civic Hall box office.
