A SELLAFIELD union has donated cash to support two popular local charities.

Prospect handed over £1,000 to Egremont's Calderwood House as well as £600 to Rosehill Youth Theatre.

Julieanne Kelly, of Together We Can Fundraising, thanked Prospect for the money and explained how it would benefit the charities.

She said: "Calderwood House will use the money to sponsor a room for a homeless person, from our area, helping to feed, cloth and get them back on their feet.

"While Rosehill Youth Theatre will use their cash to sponsor the production of The Grinch which takes place in December at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven."

Marcus Swift, of Prospect, said: "We are very to happy to be able to support Calderwood House. We feel it’s an important project, supporting the disadvantage and we wish them all the best with the project.

"We are also delighted to support Rosehill Youth Theatre as the arts and culture locally is very important to us. We wish them good luck with the show at Christmas."

Last month, a group climbed Ben Nevis raising £15,000 for Calderwood House, Rosehill Youth Theatre and Safety Net UK.

A charity ball, which aims to raise £10,000 for Safety Net UK, will be held at The Hallmark Hotel, Carlisle, on Friday, November 24.

Safety Net support children and adults that have been affected by rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence in Cumbria.

Julieanne said: "We are excited and delighted to be working with Safety Net UK, an amazing local charity. We have our very first charity ball which will be a fantastic evening.

"We are still looking for a sponsor for the event, so if anyone is interested, please get in touch for more details. We are offering a great package which includes a table at the event.

"Alternatively they can purchase tickets and we are still on the look our for raffle prizes and silent auction prizes."

Together We Can Fundraising was set up last year by consultant Julieanne aiming to bring various causes together to learn from one another.
