Keen Sellafield staff took part in a military challenge to raise funds for Calderwood House.

Over £300 was donated to the homeless hostel by the nuclear plant's four person team, which finished the competition as overall winners.

Sellafield Ltd employee Jason Savage pulled together the competitors from all levels of the organisation for the event at Copeland Stadium.

Technical director Rebecca Weston, Joe Davidson and Darren Williamson joined Savage on the challenge.

The eight team event, which was made up of athletic challenges such as a 400m plank run, gun run and a one kilometre assault course, raised over £1,300.

"It doesn't matter what your role at work, we can all pull together and contribute to our community outside of work," said technical director Rebecca Weston.

"I was very happy to be part of the challenge with Jason, Joe and Darren that supported Calderwood House, a local social enterprise. We worked well as a team, with me bringing up the rear!"

As well as taking the challenge's main trophy, Sellafield's team also had the fastest assault course run.

The event was organised by West Coast Challenge Events, the team behind recent Hell on the Harbourside and St Bees Beach Bash fundraisers.

"We would like to thank all those who came to take part and to spectate," said Jo Wear, one of the organisers.

"We were delighted that, through sponsorship, the teams involved were able to raise such a large sum of money to support the work of Calderwood House."

The homeless hostel recently raised over £2,500 when it hold a sleepover at Egremont Castle.

Alongside Calderwood residents and ex-residents, local councillors, Unity employees and Sellafield staff spent the night outside. In total, 15 volunteers took part despite constant rain.
