Security measures have been stepped up at St Bees Village School after an iPad and earphones went “missing”.

New safeguarding procedures have been introduced at the primary school for pupils and their parents.

Headteacher Emma Sharp said: “We have had a couple of items go missing in school.”

But, she added: “That’s not really the issue, it’s a case of looking at who is in school and when. That is a bigger issue than an iPad going missing.”

She said previously children and parents used four school entrances. Now all children come in through one door and parents are asked to sign in at reception.

Mrs Sharp said: “We need to safeguard children, to know who is in school and when.”

She said the school has received “positive feedback” about how calm and settled the children are when they go in.
