Scouting for Girls have been announced as the headliners of this year’s Aspatria Music Festival.

The three-piece indie rock band, whose song She’s So Lovely hit the charts in 2007, will play at the three-day festival later this year

Now in its fourth year, Aspatria Music Festival, at Bower Park, has established itself as a family-friendly all-inclusive event, with something for everyone.

It takes place from July 14 to July 16.

Also on the bill are Dr and the Medics, who are best known for their 1980s cover of Spirit in the Sky and have made themselves festival favourites across the country with a high-energy glam rock set.

Colin Rumney, a member of the organising committee, says: “We pride ourselves on offering a broad spectrum of music to appeal to all members of the family.

“We want everyone to come and enjoy themselves at Bower Park and as well as the headliners, we aim to offer local bands the chance to appear on our bill.”

Last year, the festival, with the Carnegie Theatre in Workington, organised a Battle of the Bands competition for local acts to compete for a slot at the festival and £1,000.

Keswick band Water’s Edge won and will appear at the festival, but judges felt that the standard of entries was so high that all the bands in the final have been offered slots at the event.

Whitehaven’s The Scumbrians plus Cobalt Collision, Audio Club and Heartbreak Remedy will all play.

Colin adds: “It was a difficult decision at the Battle of the Bands and we would have loved to give them all the top prize, but for us on the night, Water’s Edge had the edge. The runners-up all deserve their place in the festival and we can promise some top class local talent.”

Also on the bill are The Rucksacks, Dave Dawson, Marquis Drive, Buyers Club, Prowles, Ezilie Dantor, Mama Sang and the Robot, Misfitz and 3 River City, with more acts to be announced.
