A riot of creativity will feature at the annual three-day Eskdale Art Show to be held over the bank holiday weekend.

St Bega's School will host the exhibition which features a stunning array of paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, cards, ceramics, glass and jewellery and all proceeds will go to the school.

Pupils will also have an outside stall selling plants, books and crafts which they have been making in their art club.

Organised by the Friends of Eskdale School, and now in its 23rd year, the exhibition is free and open from May 28 to May 30 from 10am to 4.30pm.

Salli Pilcher, of the Friends of Eskdale School, said: "During art show week all the parents and members of the local community get behind us.

"We send the children out on two fabulous days of school activities/forest school and the school is emptied and reformed as an art gallery and tearoom.

"It's a fabulous transformation and one of our teaching assistants is going to capture this in a film this year.''

The fundraising enables St Bega's to support activities such as visiting the Theatre by the Lake, Shakespeare 4 Kids and a Viking day on Derwent Water.

This year, artists will include Mark Gilligan, David Pooley and Jo McGrath.

Salli said: "We are really privileged to be supported by six local families who open their gardens on Sunday and Monday of the bank holiday weekend.

"We offer free parking but we also tweet the suggestion that visitors could come on the train and catch the Ratty up to Eskdale.

"The show and open gardens are a great opportunity to visit us and experience what the wider Eskdale Valley has to offer - great walks, pubs, real ale, miniature railway, camping and fabulous views.''
