Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has recalled a number of its own brand sandwich fillers after listeria was found in some of the products.

The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause flu-like symptoms or sickness and diarrhoea.

In some cases, the bug can lead to serious complications.

People aged over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, children under one month old and people with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable to listeria infections.

The recalled items all have use by dates up to and including July 4.

They are: Cheese & Onion Deli Filler (220g), Cheese & Onion Deli Filler (385g), Chicken & Sweetcorn Deli Filler, Chicken Tikka Deli Filler, Coronation Chicken Deli Filler (220g), Coronation Chicken Deli Filler (385g), Egg & Bacon Deli Filler, Egg Mayo Deli Filler (220g), Egg Mayo Deli Filler (385g), Seafood Cocktail Deli Filler, Tuna & Sweetcorn Deli Filler (220g), Tuna & Sweetcorn Deli Filler (385g) and Be Good To Yourself Tuna & Sweetcorn Deli Filler.

Customers should return the products for a full refund, says the Food Standards Agency.

"Sainsbury’s is recalling a number of their products because listeria monocytogenes has been found in some of the products," says the FSA.

"Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

"If you have bought any of the above products do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
