SAILING, climbing and cycling will all be on offer over the summer holidays thanks to Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project.

Youngsters can take part in a range of activities throughout July and August.

These include outdoor sessions, including paddle boarding, mountain walks and kayaking, as well as wild camping trips or a visit to a velodrome in Glasgow.

Project manager Gina McCabe said: “The events are open to any young people in the area. There is nowhere else in Copeland to do such a range of activities at a low cost.

“We’ve got outdoor activities, not-so-outdoor activities and all our normal youth groups. Some children might have done things with us through their school and they can come down and try it again.

She added: “We describe it as an adventure on their doorstep, they can expect an experience they haven’t had before.”

The Harbour Youth Project aims to promote personal development and healthy lifestyles through outdoor work and adventurous activities.

Its premises are available for hire throughout the summer – including the weekends.

Booking is essential for all activities. Activities do not include any food or drink but, in most cases, include kit and transport.

Children participating in the activities must have a consent form. These can be downloaded from www.whyp.org.uk or collected from the office on Swingpump Lane, Whitehaven.
