WHITEHAVEN Rock and Blues Festival runs at the Copeland Stadium, Whitehaven, over the weekend of August 12 and 13.

The festival has been organised by music promoters The Mighty Boof, who are also bringing Feeder and The Ordinary Boys to Cumbria this year.

Blues and prog rock star Martin Turner will be taking the Friday headline slot, while award-winning blue rock titans King King will be performing on the Saturday night.

Martin Turner was a founder member, bassist and lead vocalist for Wishbone Ash during their heyday from 1969 to 1980.

The band released nine albums in that time, with their third release Argus reaching numberthree in the UK charts and achieving Gold Record status, being hailed as a landmark record.

Glaswegian four-piece King King are one of the UK’s most highly regarded blues acts, winning Best Band three times in a row at the British Blues Awards, with frontman Alan Nimmo named Best Male Vocalist for the past two years.

Also on the bill are Liverpudlian rock and soul four-piece Xander and the Peace Pirates and Grimsby-based rock band The Brew, who are currently busy travelling around Europe.

The bill also boasts the likes of popular London rock band Albany Down, alternative southern band LaVendore Rogue and North East blues group George Shovlin & The Radars, as well as Brighton-based blues and soul group Red Butler, who recently became runners up of the Emerging Artist category of the British Blues Awards.

There will be performances from West Cumbrian favourites South Quay and Mama-Sang And The Robot.
