A £120,000 revamp has transformed a historic St Bees pub, adding a dedicated cask cellar.

The seventeenth century Manor House fully reopens this week following a three-week extension by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and licensee Allan Glass.

Three new jobs are being created for bar and kitchen staff as a result of the expansion.

Mr Glass, who has ran the pub for five years, said: "At 79 years old I've been told that at my age I should be taking it easy but I'm enjoying life and running the Manor House too much.

"I want to ensure the Manor House is the best it can be and an asset to the town so I've no intention of slowing down!"

The decision to increase the size of the pub was taken due to its popularity with locals and visitors to the area.

Work included converting the Manor House's original stable into a function room and extra space for diners, adding two en-suite letting rooms on the first floor and creating a dedicated cask cellar.

The pub now offers a choice of five cask ales and a craft beer as it looks to build on its 2015 CAMRA Best Beer in Cumbria Award.

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs & Bars managing director said: "We're delighted to be investing with such a dedicated and experienced licensee as Mr Glass.

"Heineken is a passionate supporter of the great British pub and the Manor House's success is proof of its enduring popularity."
