School pupils have swapped the classroom for the wrestling ring to take part in a hard-hitting lesson!

Twenty-five youngsters from West Lakes Academy competed the session at the Egremont-based Johnny Moss School of Hard Knocks and Hammerlocks.

The pupils from Years 7 and 8 were taught in-ring technique and some basic holds in the session run by Johnny.

"The session was organised by West Lakes' PE teacher Alex Price and it was a tremendous success," said Johnny. "Due to its popularity, I'm going to introduce a weekly class for kids aged 11-14 in the new year."

Johnny has been a well-respected name on the British and European wrestling circuit since debuting almost 20 years ago. He's regularly shared a bill with WWE Hall of Famers including Bret 'Hitman' Hart, Mick Foley and Booker T, and competed with champions Daniel Bryan and Sheamus in their pre-WWE days.

He recently took part in a revival of the iconic World of Sport wrestling show which will be broadcast on ITV over the New Year period.

And since opening his wrestling school in 2014, Johnny has called his contacts book to welcome a number of special guests to Egremont, including former WWE stars Al Snow, Chris Masters and Bob 'Hardcore' Holly.

Most recently, current WWE superstar Finn Balor, whom Johnny helped train in at the start of his career, visited the school to run a masterclass for the students.
