Budding chefs set up their own pizza company in a Frizington classroom as part of a primary school business competition.

Year six pupils at Frizington Community Primary School had to create and run their own business for eight weeks during the Bright Stars challenge.

They decided to set up Pizza Paradise and produce pizza for friends and family, with the help of a £50 sponsorship from Burnetts Solicitors, Carlisle.

The Bright Stars competition, aimed at all primary schools across Cumbria, sees children try to make their £50 grow to the highest amount possible by starting a mini business.

Frizington students made a £260 profit and have decided to donate £130 to local runner Gary McKee, who is doing 100 marathons in 100 days for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Year six teacher Angela Airey said: “As part of running our own business, some of the tasks we completed involved market research, designing our company logo, making order forms, looking at profit-and-loss accounts as well as obtaining customer feedback.”

The students offered three types of pizza – ham and pineapple, pepperoni and cheese. The remaining £130 collected by the pupils will go towards purchasing school resources.
