The achievements of Keswick School students were celebrated their annual prizegiving ceremony.

Hundreds of students were recognised at the event, where prizes were presented by former pupil Abbie Scott, a member of the England women’s rugby union team.

Awards were given for achievement and effort across a range of subjects, and sporting and musical feats were also recognised.

The school’s jazz orchestra and chamber choir performed on the night and the Rev Peter Barnes, of Threlkeld, led a prayer.

Chairman of governors Sarah Peck and headteacher Simon Jackson also spoke.

Looking back over the last year, Mr Jackson said: “I’d also like to pay tribute to everyone who was affected by the flooding.

“It will take some time before our community fully recovers but it was heartening to hear of the many acts of kindness and generosity.

“Our students looked to help wherever they could.

“Despite the challenges we don’t stand still. Over recent months we have been designated a National Teaching School, the lead school for the Western Lakes Teaching School Alliance, the centre for teacher training in Central and West Cumbria and we have just been approved to form our own multi-academy trust.

“This evening we celebrate the achievements of all our students, but particularly those who are being recognised for their extra effort.”

Former sixth form students who are going on to university and students awarded bursaries by the school and the REACT Foundation were also given recognition.
