PRAISE has been given to the work of an Egremont dental surgery.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) report on Oasis Dental Care Central found that “no action” was required in areas of safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

There is no rating system in this type of inspection, so the “no action” finding means inspectors were satisfied with the surgery’s performance. The report praised the surgery’s staff, training and management.

Inspectors said: “Staff were appropriately recruited and suitably trained and skilled to meet patients’ needs and there were sufficient numbers of staff available at all times.

“Staff had also received training in infection prevention and control.

“There was a decontamination room and guidance for staff on effective decontamination of dental instruments.”

The report also praised the surgery’s care, stating that patients were treated with “respect, dignity, compassion and empathy”.

It reads: “The practice had procedures in place for respecting patients’ privacy, dignity and providing compassionate care and treatment. If a patient needed to speak to a receptionist confidentially a private room away from the reception area was available.”

Inspectors asked 21 patients to fill in “comment cards” to review some aspects of the surgery’s performance.

The reports states: “Comments included statements saying the staff were helpful and caring, great service and pleasant staff and all staff were excellent.

“However in 5 of the 21 CQC comments completed patients did voice concern about the time they have to wait for an appointment.”

The Egremont surgery did not wish to comment.
