A POPULAR Whitehaven vicar is set to take up a new role in Lancashire.

The Rev Chris Casey, of St Andrew’s Church at Mirehouse, and his wife Jane will be moving at the end of January.

He said: “After nearly 10 years the time has come for us to move to be closer to family. It’s somewhat with a heavy heart because we have so many wonderful memories of living here.”

The 54-year-old is set to become minister at the St Mary’s at Rawtenstall and St Paul’s in Constable Lee. He will also become the Borough Dean of Rossendale.

He recently announced his upcoming move to his congregation at St Andrew’s Church, based on Meadow Road.

As well as usual Sunday services, the church runs a host of community activities including youth and children’s clubs, messy church for families and children and weekly house groups.

It is understood the Diocese of Carlisle is not set to replace Rev Casey when he leaves. His role will be covered by those at St John’s Church at Hensingham and St Bridget’s Church at Moresby.
