Bosses at a hostel are calling on the public to support their bid to win a kitchen kit out.

Egremont's Calderwood House has reached the final shortlist in a campaign ran by pies and puddings firm Holland's to win a microwave, fridge and a stash of savoury slices.

Judges of the Holland's Pies Hunger Busters campaign were impressed with Calderwood's pledge to provide three meals a day for residents.

The Egremont hostel now faces three others vying for the kitchen equipment and is calling on people to back it in a public vote.

Calderwood's Rachel Holliday said: "Since our launch 18 months ago, our kitchen has been used by all our staff and over 60 residents, many who may have been homeless for several years.

"As the hub of our hostel, the kitchen sees a lot of activity and we continually having to work to raise funds to ensure that broken or worn equipment can be replaced."

As well as securing the kitchen equipment, the lucky winners of the Holland's Pies Hunger Busters campaign would also get a stash of the new Micro 2 Go slices.

Holland's Pies brand manager, Leanne Holcroft, said: "Calderwood House's entry really stood out for the great work the project does to support homeless and unemployed people in our region, particularly ex military personnel.

"With the team constantly having to revamp its kitchen in order to carry out its fantastic work, we know the Hunger Busters campaign prize would be going to a great home if Calderwood House were to win next week.

"I'm sure the community of Egremont will join us in wishing the team the best of luck in the public vote too."
