Plans to build a further 65 homes on a housing development at Cleator Moor have been submitted to Copeland Council.

High Grange Developments Ltd is applying for outline planning permission for the residential development on land at Keekle Meadows.

Permission has already been granted to build 92 homes on the site, near Mill Hill. Construction work is currently underway.

High Grange Developments would like to expand the development by another 65 homes.

The development would feature a variety of three to five bedroom homes.

Each home would be allocated a minimum of two off-road parking spaces.

Copeland Council has been provided with details of the Keekle Meadows housing project.

A planning statement to Copeland states: "The site represents the first significant housing development in Cleator Moor for over a decade. This site has helped meet existing and historic housing need."

It added the proposal will "enable a continuing supply of housing to meet local demands and to reflect the council's aspirations in relation to regeneration".

The planning statement concluded: "Due to the absence of quality housing development in any meaningful volumes within Cleator Moor from the late 1990s to 2012 there was a significant shortfall of quality new housing within the town. The Mill Hill development has provided a consistent supply of high quality housing to meet local need.

"Any delay may adversely affect the supply of housing available within Cleator Moor and the borough generally."

A new access road has already been created and opened from the B5295 Cleator Moor to Whitehaven.

In addition to the outline planning approval for the new homes, developers are seeking approval for alterations to the existing junction.
