Feedback from patients at north Cumbria's hospitals suggests the majority are happy with their care.

The data has been collected by the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Carlisle and Whitehaven hospitals, since April this year.

The results show the trust was in the top 20 per cent nationally for various areas in the Patient Perspective survey.

The Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital also scored an average of 96 per cent in the Friends and Family Test (FFT) for patients who would recommend inpatients/day care, outpatients, emergency care and maternity to their loved ones.

For Children and Young People’s services, FFT results show that 100 per cent of patients would recommend services at the West Cumberland Hospital, and 98.4 per cent at Cumberland Infirmary.

Feedback received in the hospitals' 'two minutes of your time' comment boxes were also largely positive - 92 per cent in Whitehaven and 84 per cent in Carlisle - while the trust scored an average of 9.5 out of 10 in real time face-to-face interviews with patients.

Dementia services also received 100 per cent positive comments in Whitehaven and 92 per cent in Carlisle.

On the NHS Choices website, star ratings are currently 4.5 out of 5 for West Cumberland Hopsital and 4 out of 5 for the Cumberland Infirmary. Georgia Wright, head of nursing for patient experience, said: “These are very promising and positive results, and it is thanks to the hard work and commitment our staff show across both hospital sites.
