Partying over-60s will feature in a national TV advert for the Co-op after filming took place in Manchester.

Moor Row Jubilee Club members were treated to a free party and an overnight stay by the company and secured £700 from Co-op community funding.

The group, which meets fortnightly in Moor Row Working Men’s Club, was selected for its “lively, engaging and optimstic” attitude.

“We contacted the Egremont branch of Co-op for funding to support the club. We were lucky enough to be accepted but we thought that was that,” said Rosalie Baty, from the club.

“Out of the blue I got a phone call from Tom Boy Films asking to film us. They had read our application and were interested in the club.”

The club was invited to take part in the filming.

“They took us to Manchester and we had a fantastic time. We were filmed all the way down on the coach and when we got to Salford we went to a working men’s club,” said Mrs Baty.

“It was just amazing, they took us into the club and we had free food and drink. We asked what they wanted us to do and they just said enjoy yourselves. Eventually people got up to dance and had a good time.”

Member Susan Robson attracted particular attention as she showed her skills at the twist!

The advert, which will be screened in January, will include a number of groups from across the country.

“We researched many groups over the UK that applied for Co-op community funding,” said Barnaby Spurrier, who directed the advert for Tom Boy Films on the Co-op’s behalf. “The Moor Row club seemed like great people – lively, engaging and optimistic – we really liked them.”

We got them to do what they always do and be themselves.”
