Police have been raiding homes in West Cumbria.

Officers stormed into houses on Main Street, Frizington, Kinniside Avenue, Whitehaven, and two properties on Aldby Place, Cleator Moor.

Detective Inspector Dan St Quintin said a significant quantity of what is believed to be drugs was seized from the properties in Cleator Moor.

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs.

Det Insp St Quintin said: "Today was a very successful day. We have disrupted drug dealing in west Cumbria.

"Officers from across the county worked really well together to keep west Cumbria communities as safe as possible.

"We would always encourage people who have any information on drug dealing or any other crime to come forward.

"Reports do get treated seriously and sensitively.

"Today shows our communities that we do act on it."

The warrant at the Frizington property was carried out at about 9.30am.

Later in the morning, officers searched a house in Whitehaven.

No drugs were found, but a Pit Bull type dog was discovered in the back yard.

A specialist police dog handler attended to verify the breed of the dog, which is banned, and seized the animal.

The owner will have to apply to a judge to be able to keep the dog.
